The Messiah

a study of the Gospel according to Matthew / 1:18-25

Do not be                                                                                                            .

How can we remain unafraid when the unexpected happens?

We can remain unafraid when we …

  1. Realize there will be                                            .

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary

was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together,

she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. (18)

Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want

to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. (19)

            * “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (Matthew 5:7)

  1. Learn how to manage our ____________________________ .

But after he had considered this,

an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,

“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,

because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” (20)

“She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus,

because He will save His people from their sins.” (21)

            * “… the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send …

will teach you … and will remind you of everything …” (John 14:26)

  1. Allow room for providential _________________________________.

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: (22)

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,

and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). (23)

            * And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who

love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

  1. Displace our fear with  _________________________________.

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded

him and took Mary home as his wife. (24)

But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a Son.

And he gave Him the name Jesus. (25)

            * And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who

comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who

              earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

“I sought the Lord, and He answered me;

He delivered me from all my                                                 .”
